June 5 to June 11, 2017

Young People’s Chorus of New York City, under the direction of Artistic Director/Founder Francisco J. Núñez, has been invited to represent the Americas in the renowned Songbridge program of the Tampere Vocal Music Festival.  Held under the auspices of UNESCO and endorsed by the IFCM (International Federation for  Choral Music), Songbridge will feature YPC and just two other youth choirs – the Indonesian Children and Youth Choir representing Asia and the Vox Aurea Children’s Choir from Jyvaskyla, Finland, representing Europe.  The entire Tampere Vocal Festival, a celebration of Finland’s centenary, will welcome over 50 choirs from around the world.  A key element of the Songbridge Gala Concert is that each of the three choirs will give the world premiere of a composition written by a composer of their choice that represents each choir’s own country and be in harmony with this year’s Songbridge theme, “Freedom of Speech.”  YPC has commissioned composer Michael Gordon, who will be present for the world premiere of his work “To Sing.”
