Young People's Chorus of New York City is featured as a special guest for Cellular Songs on March 14-18 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Cellular Songs is the newest in a series of music theater pieces created by Meredith Monk that explore our interdependent relationship with nature while seeking to evoke the ineffable. Following the celebrated On Behalf of Nature, which offered a liminal space questioning the precarious state of our global ecology, Cellular Songs turns attention inward to the very fabric of life itself.

On its first tour of the year, a treble chorus of 42 Young People’s Chorus of New York City singers, conducted by YPC Associate Artistic Director Elizabeth Núñez – a Lee University Distinguished Alumni Awardee - will make its Tennessee debut at Lee University’s Pangle Hall on Friday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. in a distinctive, two-hour YPC program of music and show-stopping choreography that has won YPC renown on four continents.

In an extraordinarily memorable 30th anniversary event, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City will celebrate the coming of summer with its debut in The Cathedral of St. John the Divine. For more than 425 YPC singers, the largest cathedral in the world will provide a spectacular setting for a program of music and exciting choreography that spans the musical gamut—from the most challenging commissioned compositions to music from the Broadway, spiritual, folk, and popular genres.

YPC and Yale Choral Artists perform the world premiere of The Glass Box on Saturday, June 16 in New Haven, CT. This concert is part of the Yale International Choral Festival, within the International Festival of Arts & Ideas.

Young People’s Chorus of New York City and Yale Choral Artists come together on Monday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. for a compelling concert at Kaufman Music Center's Merkin Concert Hall. The program is highlighted by the world premiere of Borderless, a YPC commission from six-time, Grammy-winning Latin jazz composer Arturo O’Farrill featuring the Haven String Quartet, and New York premiere of The Glass Box, a YPC-Yale Choral Artists co-commission from the visionary composer/impresario Paola Prestini and Pulitzer Prize-winning librettist Royce Vavrek, set to dramatic visuals by Kevork Mourad.

Choristers from the Young People’s Chorus of New York City will be joined by young singers from 15 other youth choruses from China, Finland, Ireland, and six U.S. states for a DCINY 10th anniversary concert at Carnegie Hall.  The concert will be highlighted by world premiere works composed and conducted by Francisco J. Núñez, artistic director/founder of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, and Venezuelan composer/conductor Cristian Grases.

From July 1 to 9, more than 40 choristers from the Young People’s Chorus of New York City led by YPC Associate Artistic Director Elizabeth Núñez will take part in International Choral Kathaumixw, a renowned choral festival that takes place every two years in Powell River, a beautiful city 80 air miles north of Vancouver on the “Sunshine Coast” of British Columbia in Canada. 

In its fifth visit to Japan, YPC choristers, under the direction of YPC Artistic Director/Founder Francisco J. Núñez, will embark on a country-wide, month-long tour of Japan from July 9 to August 10. The tour of concerts and exchange programs in 15 cities will cover more than 1100 miles from Shunan in the south of Japan to Sapporo in the north.

At 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City under the direction of YPC Associate Artistic Director Elizabeth Núñez will give a pre-curtain concert prior to the Classical Theatre of Harlem’s Antigone at Marcus Garvey Park.

Young People’s Chorus of New York City returns to Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival this summer as featured artists in the New York production premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s MASS: a theater piece for singers, players, and dancers.

On November 3 at Merkin Hall, YPC will introduce Vocal Currents, a new program that builds upon YPC’s groundbreaking Transient Glory and Radio Radiance commissioning series, to reimagine and create the music of tomorrow. This performance introduces eight Vocal Currents commissions for a new catalogue of music that YPC will make available to young people in choruses in communities and schools across the country and around the world.

The Young People’s Chorus of New York City and YPC Assistant Conductor Maria Peña, together with folk icon Arlo Guthrie, The Guthrie Family, and WABC-TV will launch Winter's Eve at Lincoln Center at the festival’s traditional tree-lighting ceremony hosted by the famed singer/songwriter Judy Collins.

Young People’s Chorus of New York City will be featured in the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s production of the “The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses,” based on the enchanting tale of a Native American girl with a mystical connection to wild horses by Paul Goble.

Over 100 female singers from the Young People’s Chorus of New York City will join The Crossing and the New York Philharmonic conducted by Jaap van Zweden in three world premiere, multimedia performances of Julia Wolfe’s Fire in My Mouth at David Geffen Hall January 24, 25, and 26.

Young Men of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City will head out to Georgia, where on February 7 and 8 they will be the Chorus-in-Residence of Savannah Sings 2019, Savannah’s Sixth Invitational Choir Festival, under the direction of Artist-in-Residence Francisco J. Núñez and hosted by Festival Director John Tisbert.

YPC performs an excerpt from Julia Wolfe's “Fire in My Mouth" with members of the NY Philharmonic. This Sunday afternoon performance is part of a weekend-long series of events and discussions on March 16 and 17 at the Fashion Institute of Technology to create a permanent memorial to this catastrophic event, which claimed 146 young lives.

The Young People's Chorus of New York City is pleased to announce its debut in the Toronto Children's Chorus annual Junior Treble Festival. In addition to workshops and rehearsals with other singers from choruses throughout the Lake Ontario area, YPC will sing individually and also with the entire group in the festival’s closing concert.

The Young People’s Chorus of New York City culminates the third season of Vocal Resolutions: Shaping Perceptions through Music -  an initiative that uses singing as a catalyst for cultural exploration and mutual understanding -  with a concert, centering on this year’s theme of “balance.”

The European Jewish Congress has invited the Young People’s Chorus of New York City to join singers from the allied countries of the U.K., France, and Russia in Jerusalem to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau with the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia under the baton of internationally renowned Maestro Vladimir Spivakov.

When Festival Napa Valley, California Wine Country’s flagship music festival, made the decision to postpone its 15th Anniversary Season to 2021, its artists refused to be silenced. Led by two alumni of the Festival’s Blackburn Music Academy – conductor Zach Salsburg-Frank and violinist Sienna Peck – 126 past and present Festival Napa Valley musicians joined forces to create an extraordinary virtual performance of the famous “Va, pensiero” chorus from the opera Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi.

The Young People's Chorus of New York City performs in The Universe in Verse - an event conceived by the brilliant Maria Popova. This livestream performance will premiere a new work commissioned by the New York Philharmonic and composed by long-time YPC collaborator, Paola Prestini. Participating musicians include Rosanne Cash, Patti Smith, Amanda Palmer, Zoë Keating, Morley, and Cécile McLorin Salvant. 

On May 2, 2020, Young People's Chorus of New York City performed in "The Call to Unite," a 24-hour global livestream event celebrating our collective humanity. YPC joined with more than 200 world leaders, artists, musicians, front-line workers, including Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts, Quincy Jones, Yo-Yo Ma, Deepak Chopra, and Mandy Moore.

The Young People’s Chorus of NYC will virtually perform “America the Beautiful” and “Lean On Me” in Macy's Fourth of July fireworks show. The musical score will be a mix of pop and patriotic anthems and will air on NBC from 8-10 p.m.

The one-hour online event will feature 600 choristers from YPC’s after-school performance and community choruses, along with special guest stars.
