The Young People’s Chorus of New York City conducted by Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez, join soprano and program curator Julia Bullock and a roster of acclaimed artists at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This event features a program of music set to the poems of Langston Hughes, the American poet, novelist, playwright, and major contributor to the Harlem Renaissance.

YPC will sing “Danse Africaine,” a work celebrating African song and dance, which YPC commissioned from composer/violinist Jessie Montgomery.  Ms. Montgomery describes Mr. Hughes’s poem as having a natural sense of movement, rhythm, and cadence, to which she aimed to bring a dance-like character that stays true to the poem’s internal rhythm. Others featured in this recital are Jessie Montgomery, soprano Nicole Cabell, New York Philharmonic principal clarinetist Anthony McGill, and pianist/composers Ricky Ian Gordon and John Musto.
