YPConnects and moves Forward Together

FORWARD TOGETHER

In times like this, our mission of bringing over 2,000 NYC children together seems more critical than ever. While we may not be together physically, YPC continues our work to create beautiful music, support our choristers’ academic endeavors, provide a social and emotional outlet, and share the joy of friendship and community. Today, as we count the days until we can hear those joyful voices in person, we are launching our FORWARD TOGETHER campaign. Please support YPC so that we can continue to offer innovative music programs to our children and hear their voices unite in song.

YPCONNECTS

As it has for over 30 years, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City continues to positively impact the lives of thousands of children in its diverse community. Though the city is still social distancing, we still meet with the children every day. We listen and respond to their concerns and hopes, and, most of all, we sing. The children want to sing.

The choristers also want to be engaged daily and special guests are often invited to sit in on daily rehearsals. Recently, renowned composer Samuel Adler was invited to join a virtual rehearsal. Mr. Adler is a professor emeritus at both the Eastman School of Music and The Juilliard School, and has been commissioned several times by YPC. Together, they discussed the joys of music-making and how making music together truly binds all together.

The choristers’ interactions with Mr. Adler were just one aspect of an innovative, new virtual platform YPC has created to provide children with what they tell us that they need right now. That new program–YPConnects–comprises a wide-ranging menu of options for performances, collaborations, repertoire, mentorships, music coaching, and academic help to keep the children connected, inspired, and optimistic about the future.
