September at YPC

Young People’s Chorus of New York City has opened up its doors and we are thrilled to welcome back our choristers to their home away from home! It is magical to hear their beautiful voices and the sounds of laughter coming from our rehearsal studios as we kick off our exciting 2021-22 season.

This Saturday, September 25th, YPC will be on stage in Central Park with Lang Lang at Global Citizen Live–a 24-hour live broadcast with events and performances happening around the world. The New York lineup includes Coldplay, Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello, Jennifer Lopez, Lizzo, Meek Mill, and Shawn Mendes, with special guest performances by Alessia Cara, Burna Boy, Cyndi Lauper, and Jon Batiste.

9/11 20th Anniversary Commemoration

Last week, we were humbled to sing the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the 9/11 20th Anniversary Commemoration at Ground Zero. YPC’s performance was seen by over 6 million people, and we were honored to be a part of such an important day for our country.

The Municipal Art Society of New York Performance

YPC performed in Prospect Park at The Municipal Art Society of New York’s 2020 Brendan Gill Prize Ceremony honoring Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and longtime YPC collaborator, Julia Wolfe, for Fire in my mouth. Please stay tuned for a new work written by Ms. Wolfe for YPC coming this fall.

In case you missed it: YPC’s READY, SET, SING!

In July, YPC performed our first live event with Continuum and Lincoln Center present YPC’s Ready, Set, Sing! This pop-up sing-along concert was a true celebration of New York City. After the concert, we were thrilled to see that the performance lived on digitally, with over 2.5 million views across Facebook and YouTube. Watch “The Lion Sleeps Tonight (Wimoweh)” on Facebook, where it received global attention and true viral status.
