Position Overview
The Young People’s Chorus of New York City is an internationally-acclaimed multicultural youth chorus. YPC’s Wardrobe Assistant will work with the Artistic Team to establish the theme and wardrobe items for all concerts, events, and tours, and will also be responsible for the upkeep of our extensive costume inventory.
Hours:
- 20 hours per week, afternoons and evenings required
- Exact times to be mutually agreed upon
- Additional hours and occasional weekends as needed for concerts and special events
General Responsibilities Include:
- Measuring all choristers
- Prepare garment bags with each chorister’s uniform
- Distribute uniforms to choristers for purchase
- Research and order clothing and accessories as needed
- Prepare rosters for performances as needed
- Assist with online and in-store purchases and returns as needed
- Manage YPC Parent and Family Uniform exchange Facebook group
- Supervise and train parent volunteers to assist with uniform preparation, distribution, and dressing of choristers on performance days
- Maintain accurate inventory of uniform items in storage and organizing the transport of uniforms to and from storage as needed
Concerts and Events:
- Prepare uniform items and accessories for performances
- Attend all major events to coordinate wardrobe as needed
- Assist with packing and transportation of extra uniform items to venues
- Review appearance of each chorister before performance begins
- Assist with costume changes during performances
- Facilitate cleaning of uniforms after performances and tours
- Maintain uniform pieces that need repairs and other care
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Basic sewing skills
- Basic knowledge of clothing measurements and sizing
- Ability to multitask and exceptional organizational skills
- Proactive approach, flexibility, and positive attitude
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with children and parents
- Strong attention to detail
