On November 3 at Merkin Hall, YPC will introduce Vocal Currents, a new program that builds upon YPC’s groundbreaking Transient Glory and Radio Radiance commissioning series, to reimagine and create the music of tomorrow. This performance introduces eight Vocal Currents commissions for a new catalogue of music that YPC will make available to young people in choruses in communities and schools across the country and around the world.

World Premiere of “Borderless” and New York Premiere of “The Glass Box” at Merkin Hall

Young People’s Chorus of New York City and Yale Choral Artists come together on Monday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. for a compelling concert at Kaufman Music Center's Merkin Concert Hall. The program is highlighted by the world premiere of Borderless, a YPC commission from six-time, Grammy-winning Latin jazz composer Arturo O’Farrill featuring the Haven String Quartet, and New York premiere of The Glass Box, a YPC-Yale Choral Artists co-commission from the visionary composer/impresario Paola Prestini and Pulitzer Prize-winning librettist Royce Vavrek, set to dramatic visuals by Kevork Mourad.

Transient Glory, the groundbreaking new music commissioning series created in 2001 by Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez for the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, returns with six world premieres, representing a wide range of perspectives and styles from composers Mason Bates, Michael Gordon, Joan La Barbara, Jessie Montgomery, Robert Xavier Rodriguez, and Charles Wuorinen.
