YPC PARTNERS WITH NATIONAL ART CLUB AND WQXR

On August 18, New York classical music radio station WQXR ran an encore of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City’s performance for the station’s Young Artists Showcase series. The segment, which originally aired in 2011, included powerful performances by YPC choristers as well as interviews with YPC founder and artistic director Francisco J. Núñez, alumna and Just Songs composer Monica Soyemi, and Pulitzer Prize and Guggenheim award-winning composer David Del Tredici, from whom YPC commissioned “Four Heartfelt Anthems,” the first movement of which was performed on this program. Songs like “Ave Maria,” by Johannes Brahms, “Picaflor Esmeralda,” by Gabriel Lena Frank (a YPC commission), and “Give Us Hope,” the YPC anthem, composed by Jim Papoulis, were also performed.

On August 11, YPC partnered with National Arts Club for an informative and fun “takeover” of the nonprofit organization’s Instagram page. For over a century, National Arts Club has stimulated, fostered and promoted public interest in the arts and YPC was thrilled to share its work with the organization’s audience. Throughout the day, National Arts Club’s followers received YPC posts and Stories that offered insight into YPC’s many programs and initiatives. Viewers watched choristers perform with renowned guest artists like Jason Mraz and Josh Groban, heard commissioned works like Gordon Getty’s “Beauty Come Dancing” piece, and saw behind-the-scenes footage of YPC rehearsals. The takeover also featured video created in partnership with Lincoln Center for YPC’s Heroes album, footage from last month’s “Ready, Set, Sing! “ event held in partnership with Lincoln Center’s Restart Stages initiative, a preview of YPC’s upcoming visual album The Canons Project  – and more, giving viewers a well-rounded look at all of YPC’s many programs and projects.
