On behalf of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, Founder and Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez has been invited to take part in Hudson Yards’ and Project Healthy Minds’ day of special events spotlighting global mental health, education, and advocacy. Along with fitness classes and fireside chats, there will be an outdoor screening of The Canons Project, a video conceptualized by Francisco J. Núñez that features commissions from 15 of today’s renowned composers and the voices of nearly 600 YPC choristers who recorded themselves during the height of the COVID-19 lockdown in NYC. The Canons Project was filmed and brought to life by the talented filmmaker Ansley Sawyer.

 

Following the screening, there will be a brief discussion about how artistic expression and mental health are intrinsically connected and how YPC’s highly-acclaimed AloneTogether exhibit, of which this video is a part, explores the COVID pandemic’s intense emotional toll—fear, isolation, sadness, and hopefulness—as experienced through the eyes of our choristers.Please join us at The Backyard at Hudson Yards by the Vessel for this special presentation.
