Ahra Cho
Conducting Fellow
Ahra Cho, a Conducting Fellow of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, is a soloist, educator, and conductor who values mindfulness, diversity, and inclusion based choral conducting and teaching.
Born in Seoul, Korea, Ms. Cho received her Bachelor’s degree in 2014 from Sung Shin Women’s University in Korea, Masters of Music Voice Performance from Roosevelt University in Chicago in 2018 and Masters of Choral Conducting from Illinois State University in 2021.
Ms. Cho has a unique blend of cross-cultural choral music teaching and directing experience specializing in children and youth choirs where she started music and had a wonderful memory just like she has from her early years in choir.
Upon arriving in Chicago in the Fall of 2015 to pursue her Master’s degree, she assumed a conductor/educator position with Little OL Korea Children’s Choir which the members are the third generation Korean-American children and youths in the ages between 4 to 17.
In the pursuit of improving overall skills and knowledge in youth music education including children’s choir practice techniques and conducting, she has been studying with an internationally renowned conductor and master teacher, Dr. Doreen Rao and Hee-Churl Kim.
Ms. Cho served as a music director at the Calvary Presbyterian, Illinois State University Treble Choir, and is frequently invited to conduct the Chicago Deaconess Choir, the Chicago Christian Chorale and interning at Anima Glen Ellyn Children’s Choir.
Ms. Cho also performed at the ACDA Central North Region Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in March 2020 as a performance choir with Little OL Korea Children’s Choir.
