The precise spoken details of XXXTentacion final moments remained a mystery until February 2023, when Leonard Kerr took the stand in a Fort Lauderdale courtroom. Kerr, who was sitting in the passenger seat of the BMW i8, delivered an emotional, blow-by-blow account of the exchange under direct questioning from prosecutors.
Kerr testified that as soon as the SUV blocked their path, Boatwright and Newsome rushed the sports car shouting demands. "Get out of the car! Give me the bag!" the assailants screamed. Kerr shouted at Onfroy to flee or reverse, but the rapper seemed frozen in confusion. Onfroy turned toward the driver-side window, stared at the masked man leveling a rifle at him, and asked: "What is this for?"
Those four words were the last coherent statement Jahseh Onfroy made. Kerr scrambled out of the passenger side and ran toward the back of the vehicle to seek help. As Kerr fled, Boatwright wrestled through the driver's window, attempting to rip the Louis Vuitton bag from Onfroy's lap. When the rapper resisted, Boatwright stepped back and fired multiple rounds at point-blank range into Onfroy's neck and chest. Newsome grabbed the designer bag, ran back to the Dodge Journey, and the assailants sped off, leaving Onfroy slumped over the steering wheel without a pulse.
