Language rarely moves in straight, predictable lines. A 1984 monster movie produced on a shoestring budget in Manhattan’s dilapidated subway system would seem like the least likely seed for twenty-first-century digital slang.
Yet slang thrives on the absurdity of its origins. Whether spat out in a heated social media thread or muttered casually in a college dormitory, "chud" proves how internet culture rescues forgotten relics of pop culture, strips them of their original context, and polishes them into razor-sharp social shorthand. The Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller lives on, even if the modern speaker only uses it to tell someone to log off and step into the sun.
