Getting your soundboard to play through Discord without muting your real voice or deafening the entire server requires specific settings. The biggest trap is Discord's built-in noise suppression system. Discord relies on Krisp audio filtering to strip out ambient noise, mouse clicks, and HVAC hum. Unfortunately, Krisp also categorizes sudden sound effects as unwanted background noise, aggressively clipping out the intro or chopping the tail off your meme clips.
To configure your audio cleanly, follow these system adjustments:
First, navigate to Discord Settings > Voice & Video. If you use Voicemod, set your Input Device to Voicemod Virtual Audio Device (WDM). If you use Soundpad, leave your Input Device set to your physical microphone, as Soundpad hooks directly into the Windows driver behind the scenes. Keep your Output Device assigned to your primary headphones.
Next, adjust Discord's processing algorithms. Disable Krisp Noise Suppression or set noise reduction to "Standard" if your room has background noise. Turn off Echo Cancellation and set Input Sensitivity manually rather than letting Discord automatically detect voice input. Setting the threshold manually to around -55 dB guarantees that low-volume audio intros pass through the gate without dropping packets.
Finally, run an internal sound check. Soundpad features a built-in "Voice Measurement" wizard under its Audio Preferences. Run this tool while speaking at a normal conversational volume. The software automatically scans your voice peaks and establishes an identical gain ceiling across all stored files, ensuring your memes never clip aggressively over your natural voice.
