Hardwood floor cleaning demands aggressive moisture control. Water seeping between floorboards causes wood fibers to expand unevenly, buckling polyurethane sealants along the edges. Wringing excess water until the pad is barely damp to the touch, leaving a fine film that evaporates in under two minutes, is essential for timber care.
Laminate floor maintenance requires even greater moisture discipline. Laminate surfaces consist of high-density fiberboard (HDF) under a decorative paper layer. While the top melamine wear layer resists stains, the tongue-and-groove joints between planks soak up standing puddles quickly, causing swelling along the seams. Clean laminate using damp, wrung-out microfiber pads, avoiding steam equipment entirely.
Tile and grout care introduces mechanical textures that flat pads cannot always reach. Textured porcelain and recessed mortar lines harbor soil that flat glides skim over. Use a looped microfiber head or soft nylon bristle attachment, working in overlapping figure-eight motions to dislodge grease from the grout. Follow immediately with clean water extraction to keep dirty liquid from settling into unsealed grout lines.
