One temperature does not work for every head of hair. Modern salon tools offer broad digital controls for good reason: thin, lightened strands react very differently to heat than coarse, chemical-free hair.
Fine, bleached, or fragile hair needs precise restraint. Keep temperatures between 280°F and 320°F. Bleaching lifts the protective outer cuticle and leaves the internal cortex exposed. Excessive heat will melt synthetic toners, yellow platinum shades, and snap fragile strands. Medium, naturally wavy, or color-treated hair holds shape best between 330°F and 365°F, offering solid longevity without scorching the cuticle.
Coarse, highly textured, or resistant hair requires 375°F to 400°F to reshape internal keratin structures. Even then, avoid maxing out tools at 450°F. Professional stylists reserve top temperatures for in-salon keratin services. For everyday wave styling, slow, consistent passes at moderate heat are far healthier than rapid, scorching pulls at maximum thermal output.
