Long before festival crowds chanted his lyrics, Shane Boose was an unpretentious songwriter recording out of his childhood bedroom in New York. Operating under the moniker Sombr, he built an intimate musical identity anchored by moody basslines, raw vocals, and melancholy guitar hooks. His breakout single "Caroline," self-released during the tail end of the pandemic lockdown, exploded across TikTok, generating tens of millions of streams almost overnight.
Major label bidding wars quickly followed, leading to a signing with Warner Records. What set Sombr apart from fleeting online sensations was his legitimate musicianship. Trained in classical and contemporary composition at the prestigious LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, he possessed the vocal chops and production discipline required to command major stages. Yet that rapid jump from isolated home recording to high-visibility public performance exposed him to an unfiltered level of scrutiny that few teenage artists are prepared to navigate.
