Q1: Who wrote Diamond Rio’s "One More Day"?
The song was written by Nashville songwriters Bobby Tomberlin and Steven Dale Jones. Diamond Rio recorded it for their 2001 studio album of the same title.
Q2: Was the song originally intended to be about death or tragedy?
No. The songwriters conceived the track as a romantic confession about treasuring time with a living partner. The public reassigned its meaning after the death of Dale Earnhardt and the events of September 11, 2001.
Q3: How many weeks did "One More Day" spend at No. 1?
The single held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart for two consecutive weeks in March 2001.
Q4: Why did radio stations create custom edits of the track in 2001?
After Dale Earnhardt’s fatal crash at Daytona, radio producers spliced racing engine sounds and interviews into the track. Stations repeated this production approach following 9/11 by mixing in news coverage and dedications.
