In early 2024, the meme underwent an unexpected mutation that redefined its modern use. An image circulated depicting Patrick Star, Mordecai from Cartoon Network’s Regular Show, and Jeremy Belpois from Code Lyoko (frequently substituted or swapped with Jeremy Johnson from Phineas and Ferb) all passed out together on a single living room couch. Know Your Meme logged the trend in March 2024 as it exploded across Spanish- and English-speaking communities alike.
The edit divorced characters from their respective corporate universes. It dropped them into a dreary, recognizable post-party crash pad. Sub-variants like "charlie fell asleep" and absurdist shock captions turned the composite into a canvas for surrealist humor. Why were characters from Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and French television sleeping on the same stained sofa? The absence of an answer was the entire point. The edit stripped away sentimentality, turning iconic childhood properties into deadpan visual artifacts.
