SUMMARY:The Canons Project Screening at Hudson Yards
DESCRIPTION:« All Events \n\n\n\n\nYPC SCREENS THE CANONS PROJECT AT HUDSON YARDS\nOCTOBER 10\, 2022 \n  \n\n\n\n\nOn behalf of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City\, Founder and Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez has been invited to take part in Hudson Yards’ and Project Healthy Minds’ day of special events spotlighting global mental health\, education\, and advocacy. Along with fitness classes and fireside chats\, there will be an outdoor screening of The Canons Project\, a video conceptualized by Francisco J. Núñez that features commissions from 15 of today’s renowned composers and the voices of nearly 600 YPC choristers who recorded themselves during the height of the COVID-19 lockdown in NYC. The Canons Project was filmed and brought to life by the talented filmmaker Ansley Sawyer.\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nFollowing the screening\, there will be a brief discussion about how artistic expression and mental health are intrinsically connected and how YPC’s highly-acclaimed AloneTogether exhibit\, of which this video is a part\, explores the COVID pandemic’s intense emotional toll—fear\, isolation\, sadness\, and hopefulness—as experienced through the eyes of our choristers.\n\nPlease join us at The Backyard at Hudson Yards by the Vessel for this special presentation.\n \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDETAILS\nDate: \nOctober 10\, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. \n\n\nLocation: \n\nThe Backyard at Hudson Yards by The Vessel \n20 Hudson Yards\, New York\, NY 10001

Núñez\, 40 YPC choristers take the “stage” as students of Mr. Chips in Gordon Getty’s latest opera\, Goodbye\, Mr. Chips\, which is receiving it’s New York premiere on Wednesday\, March 2nd.  \n\n\n\nThe opera\, originally composed for the live stage but re-imagined as a film\, tells the heart-warming story of a teacher at Brookfield\, an all-boys English boarding school to which “Chips” dedicates most of his adult life. Goodbye\, Mr. Chips chronicles Chips’ story of love\, loss and learning over his decades-long tenure at Brookfield. While the rest of the cast was filming on-set in San Francisco\, YPC’s choristers were captured as projections in New York City\, to vividly appear in the film as Chips recalls memories of his students. \n\n\n\nDirected by Brian Staufenbiel\, the film features Nathan Granner in the titular role of Mr. Chips\, and Lester Lynch as Merrivale.
