Now in its fifth season, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City’s initiative, Vocal Resolutions: Shaping Perceptions Through Music, engages all high-school aged choristers to use singing as a catalyst for cultural exploration and mutual understanding.
Each year, through the Vocal Resolutions initiative, YPC chooses a social topic of contemporary relevance and commissions a new composition based on that theme. The new work stimulates conflict resolution discussions in music workshops and rehearsals and is premiered as part of a year-end summit conference and concert, planned by a committee of YPC choristers and YPC’s Artistic Director/Founder, Francisco J. Núñez. Each year, a partner musical ensemble joins YPC at the Vocal Resolutions summit and shares the themes of the season.
As part of the Vocal Resolutions initiative, YPC choristers also receive vocal training that includes customized private lessons, recitals, as well as master classes led by celebrated professional singers. Vocal Resolutions not only develops highly trained singers with individually honed vocal skills but also provides them with knowledge and understanding of social concerns that will lead to a skillful cultural dialogue.
