Elizabeth Meriwether made her name balancing eccentric vulnerability with cutting wit on New Girl and The Dropout. With Furious, she discarded comfort entirely. The project began with a sparse, twenty-page treatment detailing the unravelling of an ambitious corporate archivist who stumbles into an institutional cover-up. Rather than framing the material as a sterile corporate conspiracy, Meriwether approached it through interpersonal hysteria.
Writing commenced in late 2024, with the production receiving a swift greenlight for a summer 2026 debut. Meriwether wanted actors capable of switching from professional restraint to visceral panic in a single breath. That philosophy dictated the entire casting process. She avoided polished, passive performers in favor of stage veterans who could handle rapid-fire dialogue punctuated by heavy silences.
