Why does April 24 trend on social media every year?
The date trends due to algorithmic recycling of an internet hoax that began in April 2021. Well-intentioned users create videos warning others about an alleged threat, inadvertently generating massive search traffic that re-triggers recommendation algorithms every spring.
Did law enforcement or schools ever confirm an actual threat?
No. Multiple domestic and international law enforcement agencies, along with educational monitoring groups, concluded that no credible evidence, organizing cells, or coordinated plans ever existed. Institutional notices were reactionary advisories addressing online rumors, not physical threats.
What significant events actually occur on April 24?
Historically, April 24 marks several prominent milestones, including the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope in 1990 and the United Nations International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace. It also marks recognized cultural and literary observances around the world.
